Sony VPL-VW60 Projector Lamp; LMP-H200 Projector Lamp
The Sony VPL-VW50 was definitely one of the first True HD projectors of actual quality on the market. The 16:9 aspect ratio truly did reflect HD quality picture with no gimmicks, which was in stark contrast to its many competitors claiming to have HD resolution, only to have compressed the HD into fewer pixels. The native resolution is 1920x1080p and fills your entire screen with useful information, rather than simply bridging the gapThe most astonishing fact about the Sony VLP-VW50 is the price; with a starting price point of $4,999 USD, it positioned itself within the mid-range mark and was able to compete for a huge market share. It combined both Sony’s aesthetic and attractive design along with its advanced technology, to produce an awesome and functional machine.
In the world of color, when it comes to black, there is only one true black, and everything else is simply a shade of gray. When it comes to TV, true black probably cannot be achieved, thus you have to settle for the closest possible thing. This machine has one of the highest contrast ratios on the market with an unbelievable 35000:1. The sister projector to the VPL-VW60 is the VPL-VW50, which can only display a contrast ratio of 15000:1. The difference here is Sony SXRD panel, which you may have seen in other SONY SXRD LCD TV’s. This SXRD panel really brings the black levels to a whole new plateau.
The brightness of this projector is not incredibly high, but I have noticed this phenomenon in other high contrast projectors. Sometimes, you will find that the when the contrast ratio is high, the ANSI Lumens is not all that high, or vice-versa. The VPL-VW60 has 900 ANSI Lumens, and therefore is still pretty good in ‘medium-dark’ to ‘dark’ situations. The lens really helps to project the brightness and image onto screens as large as 300 inches; anything bigger than this, and you will start to see distortions. Unfortunately, it does not allow for optional lenses to be swapped, so you are stuck with what you’ve got. However in its class, it really doesn’t need to get much bigger. The component that allows it get so bright is it 200W projector lamp, which can be found at myprojectorlamps.com by clicking the link here here.
The VPL-VW60 is also downward compatible with all forms of HDTV which is a big bonus, considering some TV’s will not be able to adjust and will ‘stretch’ the picture rather than intelligently filling in the gaps. The audible noise level is so low, at 22 db’s you will barely hear it over your own breathing. It also has both horizontal and vertical lens shift allowing for quick corrections and adjustments.
This is about all you need to know aside from you checking one out in person, so if you are in the price range, you should definitely consider it.
